The "We are data" was interesting but alarming. Technology saves everything we do on our devices and saves all of that data no matter how old the device is. It scares me how all our data on our phones is stored forever. Sometimes we forget how we are constantly being seen and recorded through our devices, people who feel more comfortable behind the screens of their devices shouldn’t feel that way to a certain extent. We are constantly being supervised, and all of the information is stored in a piece of software that can be quickly retrieved. Yes, your phone makes it easier to communicate with others and can help you call 911 in an emergency but with just a simple web search it can also reveal very personal information. Information like your IP address, apps, phone operating system, location, and more. Your device also notices what you search online and hears what you speak about which explains algorithms in social media applications. Algorithms has changed the world around us and in so many ways, it a sort of way it kind of controls your life because we are always surrounded by technology and use our devices everyday. I already keep everything about my life off of social media and think you shouldn't post every aspect of your life on there for those reasons. The way algorithms are used to control and maintain data is very interesting to me. The fact that they can save the data of all the programs and websites you visit, as well as your face recognition, IP address, and GPS location is insane to me. This is why I think people should use social media with caution. Others and our devices are always observing what we do, and the online history you develop might have an impact on future employment opportunities as well as other parts of your life. I am very careful of what I put on social media because it could affect me at a professional capacity in many ways. The information I learned helps me be more careful online. Now I also have more knowledge on how data is used and stored. I don't believe it is right for companies like Google to know when you use your phone, where you are, and even what you have searched for online . People have a right to privacy, that’s why it scares me that a device/company could know so much personal data about you.
